Sparta Police Participating In Speeding Campaign
The Sparta Police Department is participating in a speeding enforcement campaign to promote safety and reduce speeding. Sparta Police Chief Nick Dunn said speeding is the main cause of fatalities in crashes. According to the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, White County has already had three fatal crashes this year. Dunn said three is too many.
Fire at Fall Creek Falls
At 2:42 Saturday afternoon, Piney Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire with Spencer Fire-Rescue, Fall Creek Falls Fire Dept, and Cedar Grove Fire Department. The structure was a large shed with many golf carts inside at the Dead Zero Shooting Park. Due to the reported size of the fire and the location, the Dunlap Fire Department and Harrison Ferry Fire Department were also requested for manpower and water.
New Baxter Chief Make Changes With Officers
Baxter Police Chief Al Reyes is starting his new role by working with his officers and city officials to restructure the police department. Mayor John Martin said there is some state training Reyes still has to do, but the police chief is mainly focused on getting familiar with his officers and the operations of the city. Martin said Reyes was not satisfied with the state of the department when he arrived, but Reyes is working to clean it all up.

Arson Investigation Class Coming To Algood
Algood will bring together local fire officials over the next two days for a free arson investigation class taught by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Fire Chief David Judd said it is a two-day class for police, fire, and EMA employees throughout the region. Judd said the class is an introductory course that covers the basics of arson investigation and fire science.
