SPENCER, Iowa (KCAU) — After more than a month since the flooding, many people are back in their homes. Now, these people are trying to figure out what to do about soaked and damaged personal items.

A task force with FEMA was setup in Spencer to help answer these questions.

For the past few days, the Heritage Emergency National Task Force, co-sponsored by FEMA, has been in the Clay County Fairgrounds with the goal of teaching flood victims how to salvage their family heirlooms such as pictures, books, and more.

An official with the Heritage said that the process is relatively easy and over the past few days, they’ve helped many Spencer residents.

“We spoke with someone a few days ago who actually emailed us back after we gave her some times and techniques to work on her photos,” Kara Griffin with the task force said. “She let us know that she was able to save several of her photos that she thought were completely lost. And so that’s fantastic when we can help people out with things like that.”

The Heritage Emergency National Task Force will be in Spencer one last time on Monday and will then move on to Rock Rapids on July 30 and 31.
