Golf association recognizes local teams

The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin (GCAW) is proud to announce the recipients of the 13th-annual Team Academic All-State award, established to recognize high school golf teams with the highest “team” grade-point averages (“team” is defined as the five golfers on the roster for the girls’ fall 2023 WIAA regional tournament).

Spooner High School achieved Honorable Mention in Division 2. Members of the team include Avery Voeltz, Layla Thompson, Ava Thompson, Lauren Chido and Whitney Rohde.

The three teams with the highest cumulative GPA in each division (1 and 2) are being recognized with gold, silver and bronze medals for each student-athlete, and their schools will receive a certificate to note this accomplishment. Schools with at least a 3.25 team GPA will receive a certificate acknowledging honorable mention status.

GCAW also recognized the following student-athletes from Birchwood as 2024 Academic All-State honorees: Gavin Stanley, Chase Ewert and Matthew Lehnert.

GCAW announced that the following student-athletes from Spooner are recognized as 2024 Academic All-State honorees: Conner Melton, Deagan Cleveland, Jake Hartwig and Trent Lindstrom.

These student-athletes have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, have participated in at least 75% of their team’s varsity competitions during the 2024 season, are in good standing regarding athletic and school codes and are either a sophomore, junior or senior.
