Though the New York Giants entered the offseason with several concerns, the offensive line was far and away at the top of the list.

Between some significant injuries, some lack of development and overall poor performances, there were few slivers of optimism to be found regarding the unit in 2023.

Even general manager Joe Schoen, as revealed on "Hard Knocks," had a brutally honest evaluation of the starting five that was supposed to protect quarterback Daniel Jones.

“[Jones] didn’t have much of a chance this year,” Schoen said . “All season, the four guys, your core guys that are going to play together, played less than 60 snaps together. Miami, we got three f— practice squad guys playing for us. You could have Pat Mahomes, he can’t f— win behind that.”

It's true. The Giants offensive line was incredibly poor in 2023. Their 85 sacks allowed led the NFL by a wide margin — 20 more than the next team.

Now, not all sacks are created equal. A solid chunk of those belong to the quarterbacks holding on the ball for far too long. But it doesn't absolve the offensive line of blame.

That's why Schoen added veterans Jermaine Eluemunor and Jon Runyan in free agency to start at left and right guard, respectively.

The biggest question mark will be regarding right tackle Evan Neal. The former No. 7 overall pick has dealt with injuries and poor performance since entering the NFL. He missed the spring workouts recovering from offseason ankle surgery.

If the Giants want any chance at competing in 2024, the offensive line has to improve significantly.
