Detroit Lions place four players on NFI list among five roster moves

With the team set to take the field for its first practice of training camp Wednesday, the Detroit Lions made a total of five roster moves, including placing four players on the active/non-football injury list.

According to the team , cornerbacks Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson and wide receivers Donovan Peoples-Jones and Tre'Quan Smith have all been placed on the injury list. It isn't clear what any of them are dealing with.

The other move the Lions made saw them part ways with guard Matt Farniok, who was signed to a reserve/futures deal earlier this offseason after spending time on Detroit's practice squad last season.

While it remains to be seen how long each of those four players will stay on the NFI list, they can each be activated at any time.

Of those four, Davis and Robertson are the biggest names to keep an eye on, as Davis is expected to start on the boundary and Robertson could play in the slot if Brian Branch plays more safety. Both players took part in spring practices.

Peoples-Jones is expected to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver job against Kalif Raymond, and Tre'Quan Smith is trying to grab one of the depth roles on the back end of the depth chart.

The Lions also have defensive lineman D.J. Reader, defensive back Brian Branch and edge rusher Marcus Davenport on the active/physically unable to perform list, and offensive tackle Giovanni Manu on the active/non-football injury list.

Head coach Dan Campbell provided updates on the three defenders on Wednesday, which you can check out right here , but we didn't get an update on Manu.
