Bills' fringe receiver earns starting role on first depth chart

The Buffalo Bills have brought in a ton of new receivers this offseason. While most of the attention has been paid to the likes of Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, there is another new name looking to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

KJ Hamler is a former second-round pick of the Denver Broncos, and had a promising rookie season in 2020, catching three touchdown passes. However, injuries limited him to just 10 games over the next two seasons and he was released by Denver. He spent 2023 on the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad, and is now looking to earn a spot on the Bills' roster.

The dynamic receiver was listed as the team's starting kick returner and punt returner on the first depth chart of the season, and that may be his most clear path to getting that coveted roster spot. We saw a similar situation last year with Deonte Harty, who was the team's kick returner.

Hamler is also having a solid camp, particularly on Wednesday where he hauled in four catches.

There is a path where Hamler surprises everyone and makes the Bills' roster, and that path seems to be as a return man.
