Falcons safety Demarcco Hellams leaves preseason opener with leg injury

    By Clint Goss,

Atlanta Falcons SS DeMarcco Hellams has been carted off the field in Miami’s Hard
Rock Stadium with a left ankle or possibly Achilles injury. An air cast on his left leg with
12:44 remaining in the 1st Quarter (the 2nd defensive play from scrimmage for the
Falcons & Defense) is the last thing a skinny room in terms of depth needs to see.

Hellams, the 6’1, 203-pound strong safety out of Alabama, was directly competing with
SS Richie Grant for the starting safety spot opposite Pro Bowl FS Jessie Bates III. Known for his hellaciously physical middle-of-the-field headhunting, Hellams was visibly
upset and being encouraged by teammates, funny enough, the first on the TV was
    Richie Grant.

Just one day after the season-ending loss of slot wide receiver Rondale Moore to a
knee injury, even leadership needs to let out a blow from this shock.

Covering the Injuries is bleak. More to come.
