Free agent quarterback is a no-brainer for the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills looked rough in their preseason opener, to say the least.

And while it is the first preseason game and you don't want there to be too much overreactions, one thing was painfully clear - the Bills don't have a reliable backup quarterback on their roster.

Mitch Trubisky and Shane Buechele combined to go 16-of-28 for 135 yards and an interception while being sacked eight times. Neither had a passer rating above 68, and each of them made several throws that made fans painfully aware that they won't win any games should anything ever happen to Josh Allen (knock on wood, don't ever take him from us football Gods).

Luckily for Buffalo, there is a perfectly good quarterback available on the free agent market who could step in and immediately be Allen's backup - enter Ryan Tannehill.

The former Dolphin and Titan is still a free agent, which is incredibly shocking considering the success he's had in his career, as well as when you take into consideration some of the quarterbacks that do have jobs.

From 2019-21, Tannehill was unquestionably a top 15 quarterback in football. He threw 76 touchdowns in that span, and ran for 18 more. Tannehill was a Pro Bowler in 2019, and helped lead the Titans to the AFC Championship Game that season. And while he's taken a step back over the last two years, he can now age gracefully into becoming one of the league's top backups.

His style of play is very similar to Allen where he can sling the ball downfield and make plays with his legs in the run game. Having Tannehill back up Allen would bring much more peace of mind to Bills fans, or at least it should. Because he's far better than what they currently have.
