Red Sox manager compares Astros' Yordan Alvarez to a Red Sox legend

The Boston Red Sox suffered a sweep at the hands of Houston Astros over the weekend to drop to 61-55 on the year and three games back of a wild card spot.

In that series, Boston was rocked by Astros' slugger Yordan Alvarez, who hit .600 with an insane 2.292 OPS, three home runs and five RBIs in the three games.

After the second contest of the set, Red Sox manager Alex Cora compared him to arguably the greatest player in the franchise's history.

“That (left field) wall kind of keeps him close,” said Cora (via. MassLive ). “He can shoot it the other way and then he can (hit it out to right). The closest thing to David (Ortiz), probably, in the game. Very, very very similar to David Ortiz.”

Cora wasn't the only one to sing Alvarez's praises, as Red Sox star third baseman Rafael Devers joined in.

"For me, he’s the best hitter right now in the big leagues," Dever said. "As a position player, you see him and it looks very uncomfortable to pitch to him, so I don’t know how the pitcher does it. But I feel like he’s very good.”

At the moment, the Astros have the best record in the AL West, meaning that they have a playoff spot, and if they were to meet Boston in the playoffs, it might be a good idea for the Red Sox to walk Alvarez every time he steps to the plate.
