Impressive debut from Bills' rookie could have him pushing for starting role

The Buffalo Bills didn't have a lot of good to take away from their preseason opening loss to the Chicago Bears. Buffalo allowed eight sacks and averaged less than two yards per rush in a 33-6 loss.

And while it's hard to pull anything good from a beatdown such as that, the Bills did have a handful of notable performances.

Wide receiver Curtis Samuel led all Bills with a PFF grade of 78.1, taking a screen pass for a gain of 15 yards, which was one of the few big plays of the day for Buffalo.

Coming in second, though, was rookie center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger. The rookie out of Georgia finished the day with a 75.1 grade. Van Pran-Granger didn't allow a pressure, hurry, or sack in 20 pass plays. He had a stronger game than veteran Connor McGovern, who is set to replace long-time center Mitch Morse who is now in Jacksonville.

And while preseason is for situations like this where Josh Allen and Connor McGovern can develop chemistry with live reps, you have to wonder if Van Pran-Granger could make a push to eventually take the starting job if he keeps playing like this.
