The Detroit Lions are trying to sort things out with their depth options at wide receiver as the 2024 season approaches, but apparently things aren't going so well.

After practice on Monday, head coach Dan Campbell expressed disappointment with the team's depth options. Campbell noted that veteran Donovan Peoples-Jones has stepped up since preseason Week 1, but that's about it.

"It's still the same as where it's at," Campbell said . "We're waiting for somebody to step forward. We're waiting for any one of those guys to step forward. (Donovan Peoples-Jones) I felt like has been since the game much better. He's playing faster and I notice it, we all notice it, so that's encouraging. But (Daurice) Fountain and Tre'Quan (Smith) and Kaden Davis, we're dying for somebody to step up and say, 'Hey, man, I'm the guy. I'm the guy you can depend on. I'll be the same, consistent player everyday and find a way to make the plays that come my way.'"

It would appear Peoples-Jones has stepped up since Campbell specifically said he was disappointed with the veteran wideout ahead of preseason Week 1, so that's cool.

This is obviously not great to hear from a head coach, and that's especially true when you consider that the Lions have no shortage of question marks with their pass-catchers outside of wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta.

Even their No. 2 wide receiver Jameson Williams isn't a sure thing after two lackluster seasons to start his career. Granted, Williams has looked good this offseason, but that doesn't guarantee it'll translate into regular-season success.
