Manchester United are gearing up for a busy end to the transfer window, with manager Erik ten Hag pushing for crucial additions to his squad.

As the August 30 deadline looms, United are expected to sign a new midfielder, regardless of any outgoing transfers according to The Athletic. However, this move might be more budget-friendly than some fans anticipate.

One of the key names linked with United is Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat. A return on loan for the Moroccan midfielder is still on the table, as talks continue. United are also interested in Burnley’s Sander Berge, though his £20 million ($25.6m) price tag could be a sticking point.

Berge, 26, was notably left out of Burnley’s squad for their Championship opener against Luton Town, possibly to avoid any injury that could scuttle a potential deal.

    Ten Hag’s midfield options

Another player catching Ten Hag's eye is 20-year-old Toby Collyer. Recently promoted to the first-team squad, Collyer impressed during United’s U.S. tour and even made a substitute appearance in the Community Shield. His performance indicates Ten Hag’s confidence in the youngster, especially with the need for depth alongside rising star Kobbie Mainoo.

Despite Casemiro’s promising return easing some pressure, United are keen on strengthening their midfield. Berge remains one of the top targets, with United officials staying in touch.

In addition to these midfield moves, United are on the brink of completing deals for Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs De Ligt. The duo arrived in Manchester on Monday for their medicals, with their signings expected to be finalized soon.

These acquisitions will join Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, who arrived earlier in the summer, bringing United’s total summer spending to £148.3 million ($189.7m).

With one more major signing expected before the deadline, United fans could see significant changes in the squad, especially in the midfield, as Ten Hag continues to shape his team for the season ahead.
