NFL analyst believes Browns’ former third-rounder is on the roster bubble

The Cleveland Browns took wide receiver David Bell in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft . Two short years later, Bell could be in danger of getting cut before roster cutdown day. Bleacher Report NFL correspondent Kristopher Knox recently identified several higher-profile players who could be in danger of getting cut , and he's landed on Bell as one of his options.

When the Browns took Bell in the third round, their wide receiver corps was dramatically different from the squad we see today. The team had just traded for star wide receiver Amari Cooper. They had yet to trade for Elijah Moore or Jerry Jeudy or to draft 2023 third-round pick Cedric Tillman.

With the addition of several high-profile players, the Browns' roster is now crowded, leaving little room for Bell. His chances of making the final cut were further diminished by a quad injury that will keep him out for at least a week . With the Browns needing to trim their roster to 53 players by August 27th, Bell's prospects look uncertain.

Since the Browns took Bell in the third round, he's started just six games for the team. He put up 24 receptions for 214 yards. Last season, Bell only secured 14 catches for 167 yards, but he did put up three touchdowns in his limited action.

If the Browns were to release Bell, they would save roughly $1.2 million against the salary cap. It is a small number, but it is a sizable saving against a player who may not make any meaningful contribution to the team in 2024.
