Colts' late-round draft pick earns elite grade as top rookie in preseason debut

Few players matched the type of preseason debut from Indianapolis Colts rookie cornerback Micah Abraham.

The sixth-round pick shined during his first game of the preseason in the 34-30 loss against the Denver Broncos . He immediately made a name for himself with an impact play during the third quarter.

As a result, Abraham earned the highest grade from Pro Football Focus among all rookies during the first week of the preseason at 92.2.

The grade comes from his stellar play against the run. His 96.8 run defense grade led all NFL players regardless of snaps played or position in the first week of the preseason.

He was credited with one run stop with his big play coming on a strip-fumble he took back for a touchdown during the third quarter.

There may not have been a player who raised his stock more than Abraham from the preseason opener.

Abraham entered the preseason likely buried on the depth chart fighting for one of the final roster spots. After this performance, though, there's a good chance he becomes the favorite for the backup nickel role behind Kenny Moore II.

There's still a lot of preseason left to play, along with two joint practices with the Arizona Cardinals, but Abraham has set himself up nicely with a strong debut.
