Cardinals insider points out team's struggles: Can they get hot again?

The St. Louis Cardinals haven't been terribly consistent in 2024. They got off to a dreadful 15-24 start, and it appeared as though a repeat of 2023 was in the stars.

The team got hot and reached its high point on July 8, improving their record to 48-42 and ascending to six games above the .500 mark. Since then, the team has struggled, going 12-17 in their last 29 games.

In fact, they've been quite inconsistent over their last 41 games, as was noted by Benjamin Hochman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"In the past 41 games, the longest winning streak the Cardinals have had is two games," Hochman wrote.

The Cardinals have not found consistency for most of the season, but they have been especially inconsistent over their past 41 games. They haven't had a winning streak of three games or longer since they swept the San Francisco Giants and won a game against the Atlanta Braves.

Since then, as Hochman pointed out, it has been no more than two games. The timing of their recent slide is poor, as after their series with the Cincinnati Reds, they will match up against mostly teams above .500 for the rest of the season.

Their schedule features matchups against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Guardians, and the Giants, so it won't be easy for them as they try to right the ship and keep their playoff hopes alive.

We'll see how the rest of the season plays out for St. Louis.
