Just as happened in the 2023 season with Thibaut Courtois, the eve of the start of the 2024/2025 campaign has brought bad news for Real Madrid.

Just a few hours before the first official match of their new season, the European Super Cup against Atalanta on Wednesday , Eduardo Camavinga suffered an injury to his left knee that will rule him out of that match and will sideline him for several weeks.

Thankfully, at this stage, the problem doesn't look to be as serious that which ruled Curtois out for the entire campaign, but it is still a blow to Real nonetheless.

Here's what we know about Camavinga's injury.

Eduardo Camavinga injury: What we know

Real Madrid were in their final training session before the European Super Cup when Eduardo Camavinga' s cry of pain erupted in the National Stadium in Warsaw.

After a clash with his teammate and compatriot Aurelien Tchouameni, Camavinga was left prone on the pitch, with obvious signs of pain in his left knee.

According to journalist Jose Luis Sanchez, the first tests ruled out a serious knee injury for Camavinga. However, as he continued to have pain in the area, he was ruled out for the match against Atalanta.

On Wednesday, August 14, the club announced the medical report and reassured: "After the tests carried out today, he has been diagnosed with a sprain of the internal collateral ligament in the left knee."

Tchouameni is expected to take up a place in midfield in Camavinga's absence, although Luka Modric and Dani Ceballos are also alternatives.

Recovery from a sprained knee is estimated to take no more than six weeks, with a minimum time of three.
