Newcastle United's Miguel Almiron will not be making a move to MLS side Charlotte FC after the American club failed to meet the £16 million ($20.5m) asking price set by the Magpies.

According to reports in England, the proposed transfer is now off, much to the relief of Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who prefers to keep the Paraguay international.

Newcastle are thought to have turned down Charlotte's bid, which fell short of their valuation.

Howe, who has been vocal about his admiration for Almiron, wants the player to stay and focus on the upcoming matches, including the crucial Southampton game to start the Premier League season.

Almiron's future secure at St James' Park

Charlotte faced significant hurdles in the transfer negotiations. They needed to offer Almiron a lucrative deal to entice him to move across the Atlantic, while also meeting Newcastle's financial demands.

With the MLS transfer deadline looming, it seems unlikely that the deal will now proceed.

Almiron, who has two years remaining on his current contract, is thought to be content with life on Tyneside with his family.

He had previously turned down an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabaab in January, and Howe praised Almiron’s contributions, stating: "Miggy's been unbelievable for Newcastle... He's been an absolutely pivotal player, a key player."

For now, Almiron will continue to be a key part of Newcastle United’s squad, with Howe and the club's supporters eager to see him in action for the upcoming season.
