Jim Harbaugh has offered for Colin Kaepernick to join Los Angeles Chargers

When Jim Harbaugh took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers , some natural questions were going to follow.

How would he transition back to the NFL? What would happen to the allegations he was facing at Michigan? But one of his former players from his days as coach of the San Francisco 49ers will always be closely connected to him... Colin Kaepernick .

It hasn't been discussed by many in Chargers circles but would there be a chance that Kaepernick could reunite with his old coach in L.A.? Apparently, the answer is yes.

In speaking with Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY , Harbaugh discussed having Kaepernick with the Chargers but in the capacity of a coach, rather than as a player. Harbaugh goes as far as to say he is "considering it".

“If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous. He’d be a tremendous coach, if that’s the path he chose.”

Harbaugh was asked if he has approached his former quarterback about a coaching gig:

“Yeah, we talked a little bit about it. He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.”

This would set the stage for a remarkable return to the NFL, something many have never felt possible.

Colin Kaepernick still has aspirations to play again

Kaepernick, now 36 years old, has been out of the league since 2016 and will always be remembered for on-field demonstrations, choosing to kneel while it played at every game as a way to protest police brutality, creating a movement in the league and professional sports that led to division amongst many fans.

For those reasons, many have considered Kaepernick to be "blackballed" from the league but he has always maintained that he would like another shot at playing. He did as much recently:

Whether or not Kaepernick ever returns to the league, and it what capacity, remains to be seen. But if Harbaugh could get him to join the Chargers, it would make for quite the story.
