Dodgers listed as possible fit for reigning NL Cy Young winner

The Los Angeles Dodgers currently own the best record in the National League at 71-50. That is tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the third best in Major League Baseball.

In a few weeks, teams will place waiver claims on players who are let go. The deadline to do so and allow the claimed player to be eligible for postseason play is August 31.

Left-hander Blake Snell could possibly be on the move if the San Francisco Giants fall out of contention. Zach Pressnell of FanSided listed the Dodgers as a potential fit.

"The Los Angeles Dodgers would somehow have the money to bring Snell on for the rest of the year, despite issuing out over $1 billion this past offseason in new contracts," Pressnell wrote. "Shohei Ohtani has deferred $680 million of his $700 million contact. This opens up the door for the Dodgers to acquire a talent like Snell.

The Dodgers rotation would get a major boost if Snell is added via a waiver claim. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is on his way back, and the team already has Tyler Glasnow and Jack Flaherty at the top of its rotation.

Adding Snell would give them a championship-caliber rotation and make them a serious threat to win the World Series this coming October.

Snell is 2-3 in his 13 starts with the Giants this year and owns a 3.91 ERA over 69 innings of work. He has missed time due to injuries, and he did sign late in spring training, which has led to his season being truncated.

But the Dodgers do have payroll space available to add Snell, as Pressnell pointed out, so it wouldn't be too much of a financial risk to place a waiver claim on him.

The Giants are still in contention as of now, and likely won't waive Snell unless they go on a major slide. But if they do, they could potentially go this route.
