The St. Louis Cardinals have been struggling this season. Their record is now 60-62 and they are at risk of not only missing the playoffs for the second straight year, but also recording another losing season.

The offense has been the biggest problem for St. Louis. They have struggled against left-handed pitching in particular. But they have a potential solution in Triple-A Memphis, who homered last night.

"32nd home run for Luke Baker for Memphis tonight at Jacksonville," Cardinals insider Rob Rains tweeted.

Baker is a first baseman and is essentially blocked by Paul Goldschmidt. But the Cardinals need a jolt offensively in order to turn things around and save their season.

The young slugger could help them by potentially spelling the struggling Goldschmidt at first base or potentially be used as a designated hitter.

At this point, it's time for the Cardinals to do something different. Their left-handed bats have struggled immensely and are not producing, while Baker continues to rake down at Triple-A.

The Cardinals can't keep him down in the minors for much longer if they want to fix things. He could be a weapon against left-handed pitching and give the Cardinals a different look offensively.

Baker made his Major League debut last season with the Cardinals, but his opportunities were certainly limited. Now would be the time to give him another look.

We'll see if the team decides it's time to promote him or if they'll keep him down in the minors.
