LSU flips 4-star CB recruit Kade Phillips from Texas

Chalk one up in the L column for Texas' football recruiting class of 2025.

Just more than a month after netting a major commitment from 4-star defensive back prospect Kade Phillips , the Longhorns lost the Hightower (Missouri City, Texas) star to new SEC rival LSU. Phillips' latest decision was revealed via the Twitter account for On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett, and came after days of rumors that Phillips had been considering the switch.

Phillips was one of the top prospects in Texas' Class of 2025, and his departure is a definite blow to the school's overall class strength. While there is still plenty of time for the Longhorns to net a replacement, they were counting on Phillips to be a key part of their defensive back group in the incoming class.

Given the timing, and the fact that Phillips has already committed to Texas once, it would seem foolish to completely write the Longhorns off from working Phillips back into their group before Early Signing Day in December.

As we've already seen from other members of this recruiting class , no commitment is safe until an athlete has signed on the dotted line.
