The Seattle Seahawks kicked off their roster cuts yesterday by announcing that undrafted rookie cornerback Willie Roberts was getting released . After nearly a full 24 hour delay, we have finally received word of a second roster cut coming.

According to a report by ESPN Seahawks beat reporter Brady Henderson , the Seahawks intend to waive one of their sixth-round draft picks from the 2024 NFL draft, former Auburn cornerback D.J. James . Seattle also selected James' college teammate, cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett in the previous round.

While Pritchett has performed well so far that hasn't been the case for James, who the Seahawks selected at number 192 overall in the draft. It seems that questions about James' lack of size (6-foot-0, 170 pounds) were on point. During the preseason James proved too small to take on ball-carriers with confidence and according to PFF , he finished the preseason with a 46.0 grade in run defense. He also had issues with penalties.

James should be back on the practice squad though, assuming he clears waivers. As for what it means for the slot rotation, this cut does raise questions about what the team plans to do behind starter Devon Witherspoon. With Artie Burns suffering what appeared to be a serious foot injury in Saturday night's preseason win over the Cleveland Browns, James was the logical next-man-up at this spot, but obviously that won't be happening now.

The answer may be on the waiver wire.
