Former Cowboys star suspended for recruiting violations as Oklahoma coach

DeMarco Murray had a very nice career, most of it spent with the Dallas Cowboys from 2011-14, where he led the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns on his way to being a First-Team All-Pro in 2014. He then spent a year with the Philadelphia Eagles before retiring after a two-year stint with the Tennessee Titans. However, the three-time Pro Bowler currently finds himself in hot water with the NCAA.

Murray is the running backs coach for Oklahoma University, his alma mater, and he will miss the team's first game of the season for multiple recruiting violations.

According to the NCAA , Murray "Impermissibly contacted 17 prospects over 16 months, including 65 impermissible phone callas and 36 impermissible text messages."

The report also indicates that Murray was unaware that a COVID-19 waiver of recruiting contact rules had changed. An investigation showed that Oklahoma "had properly educated football coaches on the applicable recruiting rules and the timing of changes to them."

The Sooners open their season Friday, August 30th against Temple at The Palace on the Prairie in Norman.
