Seahawks roster cuts: Seattle makes surprising decision on preseason standout at RB

The Seattle Seahawks have waived undrafted rookie running back George Holani out of Boise State as part of their roster cuts today, according to a report by Tom Pelissero at NFL Network . This amounts to our first real surprise of the day from the team, as Holani had performed well for Seattle during the preseason.

Heading into the team's three games in August, it's clear that head coach Mike Macdonald's only real agenda was to settle the competition for the team's third running back spot behind starter Ken Walker and primary backup Zach Charbonnet in the backfield. Walker sat the entire preseason and Charbonnet only played a handful of snaps, while the two other undrafted rookies on the roster (Kobe Lewis and Kairee Robinson) barely saw the field at all.

That meant that McIntosh and Holani were clear to have a legitimate battle between themselves, and it appeared to go down to the wire. While Holani was efficient and showed plenty of burst, McIntosh proved just a little bit more explosive. His 56-yard touchdown run against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night probably sealed the deal.

With Lewis and Robinson having had so little to go on, our best guess is that the Seahawks may only intend to roster three running backs, at least for now. They'll have plenty of time to add another between now and Week 1.
