Packers sign four-time Pro Bowl running back in proposed blockbuster move

The Green Bay Packers are stealing all the headlines amid roster cutdown day in the National Football League.

Reports that Green Bay is parting ways with their kicker arrived today on the heels of even juicier news that the Packers have found Jordan Love’s backup for the 2024 season (and perhaps beyond).

Tuesday also brought with it grim tidings for Green Bay: running back AJ Dillon is out for the year. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Packers placed Dillon (neck) on injured reserve without designating a return date, thereby signaling the end of his season.

It’s a tough blow for Green Bay that general manager Brian Gutekunst will undoubtedly look to bounce back from in a matter of hours.

Gutekunst will be hunting on the free agent market for a productive running back starting now, and he’ll very soon run into four-time Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook, who remains a free agent.

Gutekunst should move quickly, especially given reports (also from Pelissero) that Cook is set to meet with the Dallas Cowboys.

“The Cowboys might not be done: Sources say 4x Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook is flying to Dallas tonight for a visit,” Pelissero said. “Unlike a year ago, when he was rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Cook has hit the weights all offseason and says he feels the best he has in years.”

Will Gutekunst be able to swoop in and steal away Cook?
