There could be a lot of movement across Major League Baseball this weekend.

The deadline for clubs to place players on waivers and for them to still be playoff-eligible is August 31st. Some teams already have gotten a head start and have started to place players on waivers. For teams that aren't going to make it to the playoffs, this is a way to cut costs down the stretch.

One player who already has been placed on waivers is journeyman outfielder Tommy Pham, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.

"After days of contemplation, the St. Louis Cardinals are placing outfielder Tommy Pham on waivers, according to team sources," Woo said. "The move comes just ahead of (Major League Baseball's) postseason eligibility deadline of Sept. 1.

"Pham is eligible to play for the Cardinals until he is claimed by another organization. If he is not claimed, he will remain with St. Louis. If a team does not claim him ahead of Sunday's deadline, he will not be eligible to play in the postseason with a new team."

Pham is a solid player for the Phillies to target ahead of the deadline. He is slashing .254/.321/.378 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs this season in 93 games played. Plus, he widely is considered a favorite in the clubhouse. He could bring a veteran presence to the clubhouse for the Phillies as they attempt to make a run at the World Series.

He certainly wouldn't cost much right now and could help add some more outfield depth for the Phillies.
