DK Metcalf reveals what Ryan Grubb told Seahawks offense in first meeting

Suddenly all these offseason insider stories about Seattle Seahawks running back Ken Walker being in for a big year are coming into focus. Today star wide receiver DK Metcalf met with the media ahead of the team's practice at the VMAC, their first official practice of the 2024 campaign as they prepare for Sunday's season opener against the Denver Broncos.

Even though the Seahawks roster has all the tools it needs to put a top-five passing unit on the field and Ryan Grubb is known for a pass-happy kind of attack, he has other plans in mind. Apparently Grubb plans to make the run game Seattle's bread and butter on offense.

While that upset Metcalf at first he's since come to accept it. Here's what Metcalf said Grubb told the team in their very first meeting, per Mike Dugar at The Athletic.

DK Metcalf on Ryan Grubb's comments

"...he kind of nipped that in the bud during the first offensive meeting that we had. Ryan Grubb said, 'All right guys, I know we had explosive players, but we're going to run the ball.' So, I kind of got mad really quick. But, you know, I think the foundation of running the ball first is going to open up everything else for me, Jax, Lock, Noah, everybody else in the receiver room and the tight end room."

Interesting stuff, especially if you happen to own Walker in a fantasy league. While this might sound like more of the same that we got under Pete Carroll, the Seahawks were actually a pretty pass-heavy offense the last couple years under former OC Shane Waldron , so going more run-oriented will actually represent a significant change.

We know Walker is a special athlete and is fully capable of leading the league in rushing yards if he gets the touches. Our only concern is with the team's depth at this spot. At the moment there are only three running backs on the roster , which means they'd better hope Walker stays healthy because everything we've seen indicates there's a huge gap between him and Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh.
