On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens faced off in the 2024 season opener for the NFL. Hours before the game started, one of Kansas City’s most well-known fans received a lengthy prison sentence. Xaviar Babudar, or “Chiefsaholic” was sentenced to 17 years and six months in federal prison for his connection to a string of bank robberies. Babudar’s sentencing was imposed by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs. It includes $532,675 in restitution to the financial institutions victimized by the robberies. While Babudar was robbing banks, he was also placing sports wagers on the Kansas City Chiefs.

He placed $5,000 on Patrick Mahomes to win league MVP in 2022. Argosy Casino in Illinois had to pay Babudar $40,000 after taking home the award that season. That same season, Babudar placed another $5,000 wager for Kansas City to win the Super Bowl. Eventually, Babudar was caught for the bank robberies but he posted bail just days before the Chiefs were able to beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

How else was Chiefsaholic guilty besides his part in the bank robberies?

In December 2022, Xaviar Babuadr pleaded guilty to stealing $139,500 from the Tulsa Teachers Federal Credit Union. Babudar admitted that he jumped the teller counter and forced a bank employee to give him money from the bank vault. Additionally, Babudar entered a branch of the Greater Western Bank in Clive, Iowa in March 2022. He stole $70,000 from the branch. Not only did Babudar steal money from banks, but he used Midwest casinos to launder the money. Over a four-month period that ended in July 2022, Babudar redeemed nearly $663,000 in chips from casinos across Missouri, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Illinois. By the fall of 2022, Xavier Babudar has purchased $130,000 in casino chips from four casinos in Kansas and Missouri. At the same time, Babudar stole $77,400 at two casinos over two weeks.

Earlier in the 2024 postseason, ESPN was informed that a customer placed $80,000 on the Chiefs to beat the Bills in the divisional round of the payoffs. Employees of the Hollywood Casino in Kansas City told ESPN that it was Babudar who placed that wager on the Chiefs.
