New York Jets 53-Man Roster Prediction

    By Mike Ringle,

NFL teams have until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to trim their rosters down from 90 to 53 players. That means 1,184 men will be in limbo while the 32 organizations decide how they want to put the finishing touches on their respective rosters. Each franchise will pick from this player pool to round out any remaining spots left on their active rosters and practice squads. With that being said, here is my prediction on what group the Jets will enter the 2024 NFL season with:

    Quarterback (2)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4CLRg9_0vC14vAU00

    Aaron Rodgers, Tyrod Taylor

    Active/Non-Football Injury: Jordan Travis

Keeping three quarterbacks on the active roster is becoming more outdated as the years go on. With Jordan Travis still recovering from his leg injury, the fifth-round rookie won't count toward the active roster. While it's still uncertain if he'll be able to be active at all this season, look for the Jets to sign a practice squad QB as cutdown day commences.

    Running Back (4)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3ubn1d_0vC14vAU00

Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Izzy Abanikanda, Isaiah Davis

The Jets have a young group in the backfield this year and it's still in question whether or not the team will hold onto four running backs. I believe all four ball carriers make the team due to Braelon Allen and Izzy Abanikanda impressing during the preseason, as well as the value that Isaiah Davis brings to the special teams unit.

    Wide Receiver (6)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=1fbxR3_0vC14vAU00

Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, Allen Lazard, Malachi Corley, Xavier Gibson, Irvin Charles

With Mike Williams still working to get back to full strength, I believe the Jets will begin the year with six wideouts. Maybe that number goes down to five as the season progresses, plus, there's always the possibility that there's some truth to the Davante Adams rumors. New York could find a way to add a weapon for Aaron Rodgers at this year's trade deadline.

    Tight End (3)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4NhzmF_0vC14vAU00

Tyler Conklin, Jeremy Ruckert, Kenny Yeboah

Kenny Yeboah should make the roster as the team's third TE going into 2024. With a healthy Aaron Rodgers back in the fold, the production from this group should elevate along with the rest of the Jets offense.

    Offensive Line (10)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=32jVsQ_0vC14vAU00

Tyron Smith, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Morgan Moses, Olu Fashanu, Carter Warren, Max Mitchell, Wes Schweitzer, Chris Glaser

The Jets added three new starters to the offensive line this offseason in Tyron Smith, John Simpson, and Morgan Moses. The new additions along with first-round draft pick Olu Fashanu have helped create some depth for this unit.

As we've all learned from last season, protecting Aaron Rodgers is priority number one, so this group will look to accomplish that goal in 2024.

    Defensive Line (10)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=33791m_0vC14vAU00

Quinnen Williams, Javon Kinlaw, Solomon Thomas, Leonard Taylor Ill, Tanzel Smart, Jermaine Johnson, Takk McKinley, Will McDonald IV, Micheal Clemons, Braiden McGregor

    Reserve/Did Not Report: Haason Reddick

I do not expect Haason Reddick to be on the active roster by Week 1. Maybe a miracle happens and this gets resolved in time for the Jets' matchup vs. San Francisco, but that is unlikely if you ask me at this point.

Also, Braiden McGregor is a guy who's impressed throughout the preseason, so I'm willing to bet that he's earned a spot on the 53.

    Linebacker (5)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=2kw1H0_0vC14vAU00

C.J. Mosley, Quincy Williams, Jamien Sherwood, Zaire Barnes, Chazz Surratt

Barnes and Surratt make this roster backing up two of the better linebackers in the league in Mosley and Williams. We'll see how the depth of this group potentially changes as the season progresses, but this is how I believe the Jets will start the year at the back end of the front seven.

    Cornerback (6)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=42iopy_0vC14vAU00

Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, Michael Carter ll, Brandin Echols, Jarrick Bernard-Converse, Qwan’tez Stiggers

One of the best cornerback rooms in the league gear up for another season. Jarrick Bernard-Converse showed some signs this preseason, earning a spot on the active roster. Fifth-round rookie Qwan'tez Stiggers also makes this group as the Jets will see how he continues his development.

    Safety (4)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=19DltW_0vC14vAU00

Chuck Clark, Tony Adams, Ashtyn Davis, Jaylen Key

The Jets get a healthy Chuck Clark back in 2024 after he suffered a season-ending injury last offseason. Tony Adams made his share of contributions in this defense last season, intercepting three balls along with five passes defended.

With Jordan Whitehead back with the Bucs, these are your new starting safeties in 2024.

    Special Teams (3)

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=19SOGM_0vC14vAU00

K Greg Zuerlein, P Thomas Morstead, LS Thomas Hennessy

Before Zuerlein and Morstead, there's been a revolving door at the kicker and punter positions through the years. This group is back for another season on special teams and Jets fans couldn't be happier to have some sustainability to this aspect of the game.
