BRICK TOWNSHIP — Mayor Lisa Crate’s Student Advisory Committee is hosting its annual School Supply Drive this month and is seeking donations for children who need the supplies for the upcoming school year.

Students of the committee will be collecting new items, including backpacks, lunch bags, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, erasers, glue sticks, scissors, pencil cases and sharpeners, highlighters, dry erase markers, construction paper, notebooks, one-inch binders, earbuds, tissues, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes.

“I think the importance of the supply drive is twofold,” said Crate.

“First, there are a number of students in our district that are unable to purchase the items they need to have a successful start to the school year. Whether it be folders or notebooks or pencils or backpacks, every student should feel good and confident starting the school year. So being able to supply these items is so important.”

“The second part of why this school supply drive is so great is that we have so many families who want to help and donate items but oftentimes do not know precisely how or where to do this. Providing a space for the collection helps everyone feel like they can participate and donate if they are able.”

A collection bin is available in the municipal building, 401 Chambers Bridge Road, through Aug. 31 and is accessible from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
