Step inside for the latest on several 2025 prospects on Mississippi State’s radar in football and basketball along with team news:

First Biscuit – Starting the day with basketball recruiting, on Tuesday I exchanged some messages with 2025 guard and On3 three-star prospect Courtland Muldrew of Oak Hill (Va.) Academy. The Arkansas native is still in South Carolina this week playing with Team Thad in Peach Jam and last month, he took his first official visit to Oklahoma. To no surprise, Muldrew has started to add more recent offers and that includes Arkansas and Creighton. In talking to other sources about Muldrew, it sounds like Arkansas has other guys ahead of Muldrew on their board. However, Muldrew does plan to officially visit Arkansas at some point and we will see how that goes (he hasn’t set the visit date yet). Muldrew does have official visits set for Mississippi State (Sept. 14), Ole Miss (Sept. 28) and LSU (Oct. 12), and told me he will take other official visits, as well.

Second Biscuit – Staying with basketball recruiting and catching up with 2025 point guard and On3 four-star prospect King Grace , he is playing with Texas Impact this summer and he said he is playing combo guard, for the most part. He continues to show off his shooting and playmaking abilities this offseason and he has also been a solid defender, which is one of his strong points. The Waxahachie (Texas) High School standout officially visited LSU last month and said he knows he will officially visit Mississippi State in September. He noted that State, Oklahoma, LSU, SMU and TCU are on him the hardest with Cincinnati, Syracuse and Virginia also coming on strong, of late. Grace does plan to take other official visits outside of Mississippi State but hasn’t set up those dates yet. Grace said he still plans to make his college decision in September and as mentioned above, he has State, Oklahoma, LSU, TCU and SMU among his top favorites.

Third Biscuit – Moving to football recruiting, on Tuesday I talked with 2026 receiver and On3 four-star prospect O’Mari Johnson of Wesson High School. He collected close to 2,000 yards in all-purpose yards as a sophomore and was also a playmaker on defense with four interceptions, including a pair of pick sixes. He is being recruited as an athlete, receiver and defensive back early on and he already has offers from Mississippi State, Florida State, Arkansas, LSU, Southern Cal, Penn State and Tennessee among several others. He didn’t visit anyone in the spring and an offseason injury kept him out of the camp scene. But he said he will probably take unofficial visits to Mississippi State (July 25th) and LSU later this month. He talked well of State and his relationships with head coach Jeff Lebby and assistants Matt Barnes and Chad Bumphis. He isn’t in a rush to make his college decision and said his early favorites include State, LSU, Tennessee, Louisville, Missouri and Tulane.

Fourth Biscuit – On Tuesday, I talked to a couple of sources regarding 2025 defensive lineman and On3 four-star prospect Zavion Hardy of East Mississippi Community College, who is likely Mississippi State’s most important recruit left on the 2025 board. Per sources, Hardy is expected to be back in Starkville multiple times this season for games and this summer, he took official visits to Mississippi State, Arkansas and South Carolina. When I talked with Hardy last month, he said he would probably take official visits to Auburn and Georgia, as well, during the fall. As expected, sources close to Hardy said he is not in a rush to make his college decision and Hardy has told us the same. While it could change, for now he still plans to make his college decision on November 29th, which is his birthday.

Fifth Biscuit – Moving to team news and as you know, Mississippi State will take to the stage on Wednesday morning in Dallas, Texas, at the 2024 SEC Media Days (Robbie is there repping Maroon and White Daily). Head coach Jeff Lebby will be joined by senior quarterback Blake Shapen , junior linebacker John Lewis and junior offensive lineman Albert Reese . Lebby is set to make his opening appearance on the big stage at 10:35 a.m. and is also supposed to be on the SEC Network around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Also of late, I have asked around about the start of Mississippi State training camp and while official dates have not been set yet, it will likely be around August 1st or in that area. In years past, the Bulldogs usually open camp up on a Thursday, which is August 1st, or it could open up later that first weekend of August.

And for the gravy on top – And lastly on Tuesday, I talked some with 2025 Mississippi State commitment and On3 three-star defensive back Stephen Miller of Greene County (Ga.) High School. We’re supposed to talk more later this weekend and Miller is back in offseason workouts for his senior season with training camp right around the corner. Miller said he will be back in Starkville next week for the cookout event at head coach Jeff Lebby’s house, and said he is looking forward to getting to know other guys in the class. Miller also noted that he is on track to be an early high school graduate so he can enroll at State in January. As we saw last year, that list of early high school graduates is steadily growing and that is a productive thing for Lebby and his staff.
