Step inside for the latest on several 2025 and 2026 prospects on Mississippi State’s radar in football and basketball along with team news:

First Biscuit – Starting the day with football recruiting and as you know, Mississippi State will have its final recruiting event of the summer later this week on Thursday with the annual cookout. Similar to previous summers, the Bulldogs will welcome a lot of their top targets in the Class of 2025 and Class of 2026 (and possibly some 2027 prospects). Hopefully, I can get a full list of expected visitors later this week but I expect the majority of the 2025 commitments to be in Starkville on Thursday. A few of those commitments do live far off (guys like Kevonte Henry and Sekou Smith Jr.) so they likely won’t make it and State commitment AJ Rice has told me that he won’t be able to attend. Hopefully, the Bulldogs pick up some more recruiting momentum heading into the season but as noted before, there’s not a lot of spots left in the class regarding high school and juco prospects.

Second Biscuit – Over the weekend I exchanged messages with 2025 Mississippi State commitment and On3 three-star receiver prospect Davian Jackson of Westgate (La.) High School. Jackson is planning to be back in Starkville on Thursday for the cookout at head coach Jeff Lebby’s house and he said things have gone smooth with State’s staff since he committed to the Bulldogs last month. Jackson has started preseason practice at his school and said he will be at receiver, running back, some at quarterback and at defensive back again this season. Also with State’s coaches, Jackson said those relationships have gotten stronger since he committed and that he is talking more with the coaches now regarding what to expect in State’s program and more about the school, in general.

Third Biscuit – Over the weekend I talked with two sources regarding the remainder of Mississippi State’s running backs board for the Class of 2025. The Bulldogs currently have two running back commitments in the class with On3 three-star prospects Kolin Wilson and Geron Johnson , and both of those guys committed to State last month. While their commitments are still somewhat new, both appear to be solid with those decisions and locked in with State. Sources noted that as long as no surprises happen then State is likely done with adding high school running backs to this class. Yes, the Bulldogs are still going to recruit On3 four-star tailback Akylin Dear but the odds of getting Dear are not in State’s favor. Then as mentioned, I do expect the Bulldogs to pursue an older back in the transfer portal due to having three senior backs on the current 2024 roster.

Fourth Biscuit – Moving to the Class of 2026 for a minute, over the weekend I talked with 2026 defensive lineman and On3 four-star prospect JaReylan McCoy of Tupelo High School, who had 44 tackles with 12 tackles for loss and 11 sacks as a sophomore. McCoy already has an impressive list of Power 4 offers and this summer he camped at Memphis and Mississippi State’s Top Dawg camp along with a couple of national camps. Outside of his offers, he said Ohio State and Alabama are also showing interest and he hopes to earn those offers soon. McCoy said he may be at Mississippi State’s cookout on Thursday and he said things were going well with head coach Jeff Lebby and defensive line coach David Turner. McCoy released his Top 12 favorites recently and of that group, LSU and Oregon are probably the biggest threats to Mississippi State. Of course, it doesn’t hurt State’s chances with two of McCoy’s teammates (cousin Iverson McCoy and Jaeden Hill) being in Mississippi State’s Class of 2026 already.

Fifth Biscuit – Moving to basketball recruiting, over the weekend I exchanged messages with 2025 point guard and On3 four-star prospect Christian Jeffrey of Mount Zion (Md.) Prep. So far he has taken official visits to Maryland and Oklahoma State, and while he hasn’t set up the exact dates yet, he also plans to take official visits to Mississippi State and Butler at some point in September. Tennessee also recently offered Jeffrey and he added that he may also end up officially visiting Tennessee and Penn State, as well. Earlier this month he noted that he likes head coach Chris Jans’ style of offense and the way he handles his guards in that Jans gives them freedom on the court. For now, Jeffery is planning to make his college decision in late September or October, and it sounds like Maryland may have the edge so far with Jeffery.

And for the gravy on top – And lastly over the weekend and catching up with 2025 power forward and On3 four-star prospect Jamarion Davis-Fleming . The Canton High School standout finished off Peach Jam over the weekend with his Team Thad teammates and that was likely his final event on the summer circuit. Davis-Fleming said he still plans to take official visits to Mississippi State (in September), Ole Miss and LSU, and said Arkansas and Alabama are still in contact with him. Davis-Fleming said he is very comfortable with State’s staff and a lot of that has to do with his long-time relationship with assistant coach George Brooks. Davis-Fleming noted again that he plans to make his college decision in October, likely October 15th, and I like where Mississippi State stands with him at this point.
