Judge orders demolition of South Beloit's Garden Hotel; owners fined $8.8 million
Winnebago County Circuit Court Judge Ronald Barch has ordered the demolition of the long-neglected Garden Hotel and Conference Center and imposed a staggering $8.8 million fine on its owners, New Chapter Group, Inc. The ruling follows a protracted legal battle over persistent code violations at the property located at 200 Dearborn Avenue, which had remained a blight on South Beloit for over 1,600 days.

Shelter gives hope: King’s Harvest, Davenport, rescues starving dog
A starved dog in critical condition Tuesday has begun to walk and wag his tail thanks to the care at King’s Harvest Pet Rescue, Davenport. On Tuesday, someone brought the dog, wrapped in a sheet, in to the shelter, where staff discovered the dog was severely malnourished, had injuries on his back – likely from being kept in a crate a long time, staff told Our Quad Cities News – and could barely walk or lift his head.

Man from Davenport, IA arrested after 3 vehicle accident in Boscobel
On Sunday around 9:00 pm, Grant County Dispatch received a 911 call of a three-vehicle crash south of the City of Boscobel. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded and identified 55-year-old Frank Klee of Davenport, IA as the driver of vehicle that had lost control and struck a guardrail. Frank’s vehicle came to rest in the lane of traffic, causing blockage. Two other vehicles collided attempting to avoid the blockage causing disabling damage to both vehicles. The drivers of those vehicles were 38-year-old Jordan Powers of Lancaster and a 31-year-old Grace Ideker, of Onalaska, WI. Only minor injuries were reported by the parties involved. Grant County Deputies investigated and arrested Klee for Operating while Intoxicated – 1st Offense. The passenger in Klee’s vehicle, 29-year-old Hailey Perez of Davenport, IA, was cited for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Boscobel Police Department, Boscobel Fire Department, Boscobel EMS, and Terry’s Tire and Tow assisted at the scene.

District 205 teacher pleads not guilty to felony theft charge
A Galesburg School District teacher charged with felony theft, six years after she pleaded guilty to similar charges in another case, is pleading not guilty. Michelle White, 54, made the plea in Knox County Court Wednesday afternoon, where she also asked for a trial by jury, and waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
