Local softball All-Stars roll to tournament win

PENDLETON, Indiana (WKBN) – The Steel Valley All Stars (SVAS) rolled past Illinois 7-0 in the Little League Softball Central Regional Junior Division on Thursday.

The 14U team is comprised of players from Boardman, Canfield, Poland and Struthers,

The Steel Valley All Stars got on the scoreboard in the top of the 6th inning with a pair of bases-loaded walks.

The team later erupted for 5 runs in the top of the 7th inning to close out the scoring.

Gia Vrona pitched a complete game one-hit shutout for the Steel Valley All Stars piling up 16 strikeouts.

Gianna Zuppo and Ali Blinsky led the SVAS with 2 hits apiece and the only extra-base hits of the game.  Blinsky tallied a triple with a pair of RBIs. Zuppo added an RBI double.

Sofia Kateeb went the distance and gave up 6 hits, 5 walks and earned 14 strikeouts. for Illinois in the setback.

SVAS returns to action tonight against Kentucky in the regional winner’s bracket play.
