STURGIS TWP. — A 32-year-old Sturgis man died following a Monday morning crash, according to a post from the Michigan State Police.

Rescue crews responded to the crash on U.S. 12 near Shimmel Road about 7 a.m.

Preliminary investigation showed the man was westbound on a motorcycle when he attempted to pass two vehicles, a passenger car and a semi.

While passing the semi, the motorcyclist struck an eastbound vehicle head on. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 40-year-old White Pigeon woman, sustained only minor injuries, according to MSP.

"Alcohol/drugs are not considered to be a factor, however, speed and improper passing are believed to be a factor," the MSP post said.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by St Joseph County Sheriffs Department and LifeCare. This crash remains under investigation.
