Two additional red light photo enforcement cameras go online

The City of Suffolk announced the launch of two additional red light photo enforcement cameras on Tuesday.

According to a media release, the city says these cameras will enforce red-light laws and raise awareness about the consequences of running red lights. This effort is part of a larger enforcement program introduced last year, including Work Zone, School Zone, and School Bus Stop-Arm cameras.

The new cameras are positioned at two intersections: Bridge Road and College Drive and Bridge Road and Harbour View Boulevard. The cameras will monitor all directions of traffic at these intersections to capture video and photographic evidence of motorists violating red-light traffic laws.

A 30-day warning period at these intersections will begin on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, and end on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Violators will receive a cautionary letter mailed to their residence during the warning period. After the warning period, violators will receive a $50.00 fine.

The notice of violation will be mailed in an official City of Suffolk envelope containing information related to the offense (date, location, etc.) and a link to view a video and images of the violation online. Violators will have 30 days to pay the fine or appeal in court.
