Commissioners honor retired longtime Dover basketball coach
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) Tuscarawas County leaders are helping send off a local sports icon. During Monday’s board meeting, the county commissioners presented a certificate of recognition to longtime Dover head basketball coach Bob Von Kaenel, who hung up his whistle last month after 33 winning seasons. The inscription reads, in part:
Lewis Makes It 4 For 5 With BOSS at Hilltop
California native, Ricky Lewis, finished off his 2023 tour championship campaign in dominant fashion. Now, he has begun his title defense with a record setting run, winning four of the first five events in 2024. He has not had the wins handed to him, as none of the four wins have come from front row starting spots. Lewis has started from fifth, sixth, seventh and now fourth at Hilltop, in racing to his main event wins.

YMCA Prepares for Annual Golf Fundraiser
The Tuscarawas County YMCA will hold its 23rd annual Memorial Golf Outing on August 15th, at Oak Shadows Golf Club in New Philadelphia. Formerly known as the Jack Marsh Memorial Golf Outing, the name has been updated to honor Craig Rader, a long-time Tuscarawas County YMCA supporter and former board member, who passed away in 2021.
