North Hopkins earns gold in gold bracket

BIRTHRIGHT — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers enjoyed a dominant weekend, coming out on top in the gold bracket during the North Hopkins Tournament. This marks the first time since 2007 that the Lady Panthers have won their tournament.

In their first game, Aug. 22, the Lady Panthers played the Miller Grove Lady Hornets. North Hopkins won in two sets, with set scores being 25-16 and 25-7.

For their next game, the Lady Panthers took on the Valley View Lady Eagles. The Lady Panthers earned a two-set win in that game.

For their third and final game of the day, the Lady Panthers squared off against the Ector Lady Eagles. North Hopkins picked up another two-set win, with set scores of 2510 and 25-13.

The next day, Aug. 23, the Lady Panthers paused action in the tournament to host a home, non-district game against the Axtell Lady Longhorns. The Lady Panthers won the game in four sets.

The day after, Aug. 24, the Lady Panthers got back to work in the tournament, competing in the gold bracket. Their first game was played against the Trenton Lady Tigers. North Hopkins won in two sets.

Their next game came against the Leonard Lady Tigers. The Lady Panthers earned the win in two sets, with set scores of 25-13 and 25-9, propelling them to the gold bracket championship game.

In the championship game, the Lady Panthers took on the Chisum Lady Mustangs. North Hopkins won the game in two sets, earning their first win in the North Hopkins Tournament since 2007.

With these wins, the Lady Panthers improved to 13-2 on the season. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Mount Pleasant to face off against the Chapel Hill Lady Devils.
