Sulphur Springs Independent School District trustees approved the appointment of Josh Ross as Principal of Sulphur Springs Middle School.

The vote, held during the regular school board meeting Tuesday evening, June 11, was unanimous.

“I am very confident in the skills, background, and energy that Mr. Ross will bring to Sulphur Springs ISD. His passion for education and excellence in leading is evident,” said SSISD Superintendent. Deana Steeber.

Ross has spent 21 total years in secondary education. He started out as a career and technical educator teaching business courses. Ross spent 15 years in Mesquite ISD, and one year each at Royse City and Wills Point ISDs. During the past two decades, he’s also served as an at-risk coordinator, coach, and was most recently assistant principal at Wills Point Middle School.

Ross said he’s known since he was young that his calling was to help people.

“I’ve always wanted to help young people navigate what their world is and where they’re going. We’re all in this together, and my goal is to help every student who comes in the building become a better, more educated person.”

He said he and his wife, Beth, were drawn to Sulphur Springs by its family atmosphere and beauty.

“I’m excited to be here. When I met Dr. Deana Steeber and Mr. [Assistant Superintendent Justin] Cowart, I really liked their vision for the district,” Ross said.

He began work at SSMS Tuesday morning.
