Whale sightings unusually high for NJ. What’s the cause?
Viking Yacht Company, out of Burlington County, took to Facebook days ago to share about “unusually high numbers” of North Atlantic Right Whales around the region. Sightings have been identified in the New York Bight from the Block Canyon to the Hudson Canyon, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Summer in New Jersey is all about fun in the sun. At no point is anyone thinking about Christmas at such an early point in the year. Well, maybe except for Christmas in July. Lehigh Valley under another heat advisory, with 'decent amounts of fuel' for storms
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Another wave of heat is forecast for the Lehigh Valley and a large swath of the region in the coming days. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday for heat index values — a measure of how hot it feels, factoring in humidity — around 100 degrees.

A New Jersey university is freezing tuition at current rates after delays in processing federal financial aid forms have left families scrambling. 2.2 magnitude earthquake rattles N.J. early Wednesday
A 2.2 magnitude earthquake rattled part of New Jersey early Wednesday, the strongest tremor to hit this state this month. The earthquake was centered about 3.1 miles east of Califon, Hunterdon County, N.J., not far from Easton, Pa. It hit at about 1:44 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Ulster County fire chief suspended then arrested
PLATTEKILL – The Plattekill Fire District Chief was suspended by the district commissioners at an emergency meeting of the board on July 18, following several personnel-related” complaints. The commissioners ordered Chief Robert Betanzos Jr. to return the district-owned chief’s vehicle to the district while the suspension is served. Betanzos, according to a Mid Hudson News source close to the investigation, says the suspended chief hid the district-owned vehicle in the garage of his private residence in Gardiner.
