Air quality alert for 6 N.J. counties Thursday
An air quality alert was issued on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. in effect until Thursday at 11 p.m. for Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and Burlington counties. "The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Ground Level Ozone and Fine Particulates, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday. Sensitive individuals, including the very young, the elderly, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should avoid strenuous activities during the afternoon and early evening hours. Hot and humid conditions are expected on Thursday, along with ample sunshine and south-southwesterly winds. As a result, ozone levels will be able to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category along the I-95 corridor and the northern New Jersey coast," says the National Weather Service.
