Landmark Credit Union bank robbery suspects charged in July 9 heist in Sussex

SUSSEX - Two men, including one who implied he was armed, will face felony charges tied to a July 9 robbery of the Landmark Credit Union in Sussex.

Jules J. Bahler, 31, of Milwaukee and Shane A. Tillman, 38, of Antigo were arrested separately within days, thanks to the use of surveillance cameras, traffic cameras and facial recognition software. Both were charged Friday with a single count of robbery of a financial institution and the use of a dangerous weapon.

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, the lead investigating agency, and each criminal complaint, Bahler was identified as the suspect who handed a note to a Landmark teller and demanded money shortly after noon July 9. He allegedly told the teller to hurry or he would shoot, though no weapon was displayed.

Bahler reportedly fled on foot from the bank before deputies arrived. Neighborhood security cameras captured images of Bahler both arriving and leaving in a pickup driven by another man, later identified as Tillman. His vehicle was also identified through traffic cameras.

Authorities said Tillman was a "known associate" of Bahler's, which aided the investigation, leading to Bahler's arrest Friday in Milwaukee. Tillman was arrested the previous day.

Between $4,000 and $5,000 was taken in the robbery, according to the complaint.

Cash bonds of $350,000 for Bahler and $250,000 for Tillman were set. Both are eligible for state public defender attorneys, who were not immediately available late Monday afternoon to comment. If convicted, each could face up to 45 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines.
