2 critically injured in Northern California mine shaft explosion
PLACER COUNTY — Two people suffered critical injuries in an explosion inside a Northern California mine shaft, officials said Friday.The Foresthill Fire Protection District said it happened shortly after 9:40 a.m. at a mine shaft along Mosquito Ridge Road at Gorman Ranch Road in Placer County.Personnel with the Foresthill district and the U.S. Forest Service located the two people outside of the mine shaft. They were then airlifted to Sutter Roseville Trauma Center.The Foresthill fire district said the Mine Safety and Health Administration was taking the lead on the investigation. The mine will remain closed until an inspection can be done.

Buena Vista Golf Course loses equipment in blaze
TAFT, Calif. --- (KBAK/FOX58) A late-June fire at Buena Vista Golf Course torched equipment needed by its operator to keep the course maintained. Chad Sorensen operates Buena Vista Golf Course. While Sorensen does not own the land, he owns everything else. That includes the thousands of dollars worth of equipment that literally went up in flames. The course employees are all on his payroll, too.

CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. — A Calaveras County home burned down from a barbeque Wednesday, according to fire officials. The Calaveras Consolidated Fire Department said the fire started at a home on Kirby Street in the Rancho Calaveras Subdivision in Valley Springs. They said they fought the fire in triple-digit heat.
