Is it real? Or is it “Memorex?”

Now that I’ve reached my definite Crone years, I am realizing that I measure time a little bit differently. It’s difficult to gauge how much of it has passed between the experiences in my life. Maybe it’s got something to do with the thinning of the tapes that record my memories; maybe it’s the quality of the media upon which those memories were recorded.

Or, maybe it’s the nature of time itself.

I have very specific ways of referring to time. More recent times are referred to as “earlier today,” “yesterday,” “the other day,” “a few weeks ago,” or “a while ago.”

Longer times in the past are referred to thusly:

Anytime in the 2000s up until “a while ago” are referred to as “a few years ago.”

“Many years ago” is any time before 2000. In my brain things that happened in the 90s are like yesterday, as are most of the things that happened in the 2000s.

“A long time ago” is anything in my adulthood before 1985.

Anything before the age of 18 is called “a long, long time ago.”

The time period between 1985 and 1987 is referred to as “back in the day.”

Of course, if time is simply a human construct imagined so that humans can comprehend the multivalent realities of simultaneous experiences in a multiverse, all of it is simply “today.”

May yours be a good one!
