An email from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reports that Northbound Interstate 17 will be closed from June 7 through June 10. According to ADOT, the section of freeway between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 will be undergoing pavement improvement work. This is the continuation of the project to improve road conditions on six miles of I-17 between Happy Valley Road and State Route 74.

ADOT recommends that drivers plan weekend travel carefully and add extra time to their itinerary. Traveling during non-peak morning or nighttime hours will help ensure less traffic and time to remain on the designated detour route, which follows westbound Happy Valley Road to northbound Lake Pleasant Parkway and eastbound Loop 303 back to I-17. ADOT reports that the reverse of this route moved traffic effectively during the recent southbound I-17 closure between Loop 303 and Happy Valley Road.

Drivers of large trucks might consider taking Interstate 10 in the West Valley to northbound Loop 303 as an alternate detour route. All drivers should remember that traffic backups are inevitable during closures, it is important to plan ahead and be prepared.

This weekend’s closure of northbound I-17 between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday June 7 and continue until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 10. Northbound I-17 on the-ramps at Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads also will be closed. If it’s necessary for drivers to take the route on northbound I-17 through the north Valley, ADOT suggests traveling before Friday night’s closure begins, if possible.

Don't forget to "pack your patience."
