Toledo Board of Education honors the legacy of Richard “Rico” Neller
June 25, 2024: The Toledo Board of Education invited family and friends to attend a recognition ceremony in honor of Richard “Rico” Neller for his contributions to the Latino community. Rico has left a lasting legacy through his work in education, journalism, and cultural preservation. Richard taught at Toledo Public Schools while attending Law School at the University of Toledo, and went on to become a well-respected defense attorney. Teens exiting foster care, teen parents among most vulnerable
When United Way 211 got a call from a 16-year-old mother experiencing homelessness, the agency did not know where to place her and her children. Rebekah’s Haven takes women over the age of 18 with up to three children up to age 11, but the girl seeking help was not yet 18. Safety Net houses youth from 12 to 17, but the girl’s children were not 12. Teen parents are one of the unique populations that don’t fit into the mosaic of homelessness services Toledo provides. The youths that seek help for housing crises embody a spectrum of circumstances, explained Emily Matthews, the 211 Toledo program manager. Youth homelessness not only affects children that are a part of their family unit; it affects runaways, teen parents, and young adults transitioning out of foster care or the juvenile justice system.

Decreasing clouds, showers this evening just in time for fireworks
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - It was an uncharacteristically gloomy 4th with occasional showers/drizzle. This, paired with sky-high humidity and highs near 80º made it feel positively tropical! While that part of the forecast won’t be changing much tonight for the many fireworks displays in store, showers and cloud coverage will decrease as the evening progresses. Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio will be free from any relentless rain or wind after sunset, even if an isolated shower/pop up can’t be completely ruled out due to the aforementioned humid conditions.
