Physical therapist wants to solve people’s problems
From a young age, Jill Gibbon has had a fascination with solving problems. Her desire to learn more about the inner workings of things inspired her to go to The College of St. Catherine to explore biochemistry and engineering. But Gibbon quickly realized she didn’t want to be stuck behind a desk in a lab. Always intrigued by the human body, she decided to focus on physical therapy. To her, the human body is “a system of levers and pulleys” that works together. ...
Superior Rivers summer events: aquatic bugs, piping plovers, restoration review
Superior Rivers Watershed Association is kicking off summer with opportunities to learn more about the Lake Superior watershed. Aquatic bugs, sometimes called macroinvertebrates are an important environmental indicator that help identify potential threats to water quality and provide a report card for our waters. Spring volunteers are wrapping up May’s sampling efforts, but people can learn about these organisms and their critical role in the food chain at one of two “macro” sorting and identification training events. ...
Pet of the week
Hi, I’m Indigo. I’m a playful kitten who likes to explore and try new things. I can often be found chasing a new toy, climbing into my foster dad’s boots, or cuddling with my sisters. I’d love to find a home with a cat friend. I’m also dog compatible. See you soon! Pet of the Week highlights an animal available at the Helping PAWS shelter in Washburn. Pet of the week
Meet Amy Rose. When she first arrived, she was quite shy and lacked socialization. However, she has truly blossomed since then, eagerly interacting with all the animals and people she encounters every day. Amy Rose is highly motivated by treats and is making remarkable progress in her learning journey. She longs for a loving home as she feels quite lonely spending her nights alone. She needs a family who is willing to work with her and help her build confidence. Amy Rose is searching for a leader who can guide her. While she may be a bit overwhelming for some dogs, she would thrive in a home with confident kids over the age of 13. The artist behind the mural is Amelia Kaiser, who recently moved to the Minnesota north woods from the Pacific Northwest. Kaiser was selected from a pool of artists and given just 10 days to come up with a design and create the mural. Making it more challenging, she said, was that it couldn’t be in the style...

56-inch musky caught by Ashland resident
GREEN BAY — When Ashland resident and Mark Mackey’s brother called inviting him to come over to the Peshtigo River for some walleye fishing, he didn’t hesitate. “Bob said, ‘Now’s the time, brother.’ He’s been telling me about the 30-plus-inch walleyes he’s been catching for a few years now and sent a few pictures my way, too, so it didn’t take much to convince me to make the trip,” said Mackey. ...

{p class=”p1”}{span class=”s1”}Hi, I’m Spritzy. I’m a spayed female young adult. I’m one of the longest residents at the rescue, having been {/span}here almost 2 years since I came from another rescue in South Dakota. In foster care, I get along well with other cats and people too, as long as they don’t hold me (I’m not a fan). I’m a cat who loves to play and snuggle with other cats. Come meet me so I can add some sparkle to your life! Pet of the Week highlights an animal available at the Helping PAWS shelter in Washburn.
