$180,000 sick-time payout approved for ex-police chief
BRADLEY BEACH — The Bradley Beach Borough Council authorized a payout of about $180,000 in accumulated sick time to retired Bradley Beach Chief of Police Leonard Guida. Guida, who was the subject of a scathing Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) report following the release of a video of a physical confrontation with another officer, will be paid in three separate and equal installments in 2024, 2025 and 2026, according to the resolution.
2024 municipal budget finally in place
BRADLEY BEACH — After six months of meetings, nine attempts at introduction and two and a half hours of questioning, the Bradley Beach Borough Council adopted the 2024 municipal budget in a unanimous vote on Sept. 25. Typically, municipal budgets are adopted in March or April. Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Richard Gartz, Acting Borough Administrator Meredith DeMarco and volunteer Greg Fehrenbach fielded questions from members of the council and public alike during the hearing of the budget.
Lawsuit over lake fountain qualms settled by council
LAKE COMO — In an executive session at the end of the Oct. 1 council meeting, the borough mayor and council passed a resolution authorizing a settlement agreement regarding the lake fountain lawsuit, with an agreement to limit daily hours of operations from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. According to the resolution, the plaintiffs of the lawsuit, JNG Land, LLC, NJG Land, LLC, Steven Giacona, Gina Giacona, Justin Giacona and Kerry Flannagan, brought action to the Superior Court of New Jersey against the Borough seeking damages claiming that the noise of the fountain installed in the lake “created a nuisance.”

Airport pays off Superfund debt; owed EPA more than $16M
WALL TOWNSHIP — The Monmouth Executive Airport has paid off its debt to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of more than $16,000,000 in site decontamination fees, according to officials from both entities. A federal court ordered the airport, known as Wall Herald Corporation (WHC), to pay liability fees in 2010 for parts of the property that contained chemicals such as 1,4-dioxane, a clear liquid with a faint odor that mixes easily with water.

The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory at 3:42 p.m. on Tuesday valid for Wednesday between 6 a.m. and noon for Monmouth County. "Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways," says the weather service. "Some spotty minor coastal flooding could occur with this evening's high tide, however inundation will be greatest with the Wednesday morning high tide."
