Western Christian bests Bandon for Oregon Class 2A girls basketball championship
Western Christian was able to hold on late for a 45-40 win over Bandon on Saturday night in Pendleton, winning the OSAA Class 2A girls basketball state championship. The win is Western Christian’s second, and its first since renaming from Western Mennonite in 2017 (last title win was in 2015).
Area chess teams compete at state championships
Chess teams from Coos County braved the forecast of snow to travel to Oregon Episcopal School in Portland to compete in the Oregon High School Chess Team State Championships two day event March 1st and 2nd. The girls basketball teams from Coquille, Myrtle Point and Powers and the Coquille boys all lost in the state playoffs last week, coming up short of spots in the state tournament.
