GoFundMe set to help Coquille Chess Club go to Nationals
The Coquille Chess Club started a GoFundMe asking the community to help them cover expenses for their top three players who have earned spots at Nationals. The team includes kids and teens from Coquille, Bandon, Myrtle Point, Port Orford, Coos Bay, and North Bend. The team is a registered non-profit. They hope to raise $5,000 to pay for the cost of travel and lodging to Las Vegas for Nationals, as well as other tournaments throughout the year. May South Coast Chess Tournament held
A South Coast Chess Tournament to end the school year was held at the Coquille High School Library last weekend.The Coquille Chess tournaments are not just for Coquille as it has become more diverse with players coming from Sutherlin and Myrtle Creek as well as Coos Bay, North Bend, Myrtle Point and Port Orford. Several adults continue to challenge the scholastic players.
